Lucas Thorn wasn’t born a cheater. All it took was a single moment—say, a certain disastrous incident on the night before his wedding—and boom. Reputation destroyed forever and always. So now he owns it. He has a lady friend for every night of the week (except Sundays—God’s day and all), and his rules are simple: No commitments. No exceptions.
But a certain smart-mouthed, strawberry blonde vixen is about to blow that all to hell.
Avery Black has never forgiven Lucas for cheating on her sister. And suddenly being forced to work with him is pretty much a nightmare on steroids. Of course, it does afford her the opportunity to make his life as difficult as possible. But no good revenge scheme comes without payback. Because he didn’t become the Lucas Thorn without learning a few things about women.
Now Avery’s lust for vengeance has turned into, well, lust. And if Lucas stops cheating, it’s definitely not because he’s falling in love…

From Publishers Weekly
“Van Dyken’s contemporary romance will win fans and accolades with an adorable heroine, a roguish hero, and plenty of snappy banter. Avery Black, fresh out of college and living on her own, has been downsized out of her job. If she’s going to keep the lights on in her modest downtown-Seattle apartment, she desperately needs a regular paycheck. A paid internship may not be ideal, but the money means she won’t have to move back in with her parents. It seems an easy enough assignment until she meets her boss and finds out what a small world it is. Lucas Thorn, the VP of marketing and research for whom she’ll be working, is also a cad, a cheater, and the man who left her sister at the altar, breaking the hearts of the entire Black family. Naturally, they hit it off. Told in the alternating voices of Avery and Lucas, Van Dyken’s diverting cat-and-mouse matchup is pure starry-eyed escapist fun.”

“The first book in the Curious Liaisons series is the perfect light-and-fluffy read to enjoy while you’re curled up with hot cocoa and a warm blanket. The characters are vivid and fun to read.” —RT Book Reviews

Another RVD hit!
By Jennifer Van Wyk
It's not what you think... but it kind of is. No, it's not about some guy who thinks he's above the "law" of cheating and doesn't care about a woman's heart. Lucas Thorn is a man who fell into a pattern when he felt backed into a corner, of sorts.
Cheater had so many moments I found myself smiling and laughing throughout, getting a good dose of the RVD humor so many of us have grown to know and love. But it also oddly made me think - of the fact there's always more to the story.
I applaud Rachel Van Dyken for reaching into that odd box that seems so wildly taboo only few want to open it up, and opening it in a way that makes a reader go "huh. I think I kind of like - dare I say love - this dude who I thought would tick me off."
Another great story by Rachel... I double dare you to try it out and test out a new kind of love story.

4 "I nearly died from laughter" stars
By DonnaC
Cheater (Curious Liaisons #1) by Rachel Van Dyken
4 stars!!!
“That’s the Lucas Thorn effect.”
Rachel Van Dyken has had me in hysterics reading this book, I have had tears of laughter and even had a “spat my tea” incident and I have to admit I haven’t laughed as much in ages. The dialogue in this book is some of the best I have read in a while and the humour, wit and banter was prevalent throughout.
“Never did figure out how he got his little hot dog in there!”
However, I will preface this review with a little disclaimer. If you have an issue with a total manwhore who has a schedule for a different woman in his bed Monday to Saturday, you will not like this book. However, if like me, it doesn’t bother you and you can read it for what it is, tongue in cheek, then you will definitely laugh as much as I did. Some of the treatment of secondary characters is rather shady and definitely not empathetic, but if, like me, you read it for the rom com it is, then this will not bother you either. I read this as a light hearted, funny read, yes, it is a bit unrealistic, yes, the situations are a little over the top, but it is rom com and it is that, that I base my review. Do I condone some of the actions, definitely not, but it made for hilarious reading none the less.
“Sometimes a guy just needs good sex.”
Lucas Thorn was engaged to his childhood sweetheart, the prom king and queen, the “it” girl and boy and because of the length of their relationship and the friendship of their parents he kinda felt he had to go through with it, even though, deep down, he knew he had feelings for someone else. The night before the wedding though, he gets cold feet and is determined to come clean and this night will forever be known as “the night that shall not be named.”
Having escaped “wedded bliss” Lucas is determined to never fall into the same trap again, so he has a different woman in his bed six nights of the week. They all know the situation, they all know they are one of six and all are happy with the arrangement. It works perfectly, until the woman, the one that made Lucas question his engagement all those many years ago, comes to work for him. Oh, and did I mention that she is the younger sister of the original bride to be!!
“It’s not cheating if you know.”
Avery Black was a fantastic heroine, her witty comebacks and her ballsy attitude really brought Lucas to his knees. It is her spitfire personality that really reigns him in and makes him want to change. Avery was always his unicorn, the one he couldn’t have, but give him the possibility and this man changes in the blink of an eye. It was this immediate change that really emphasised the depths of his feelings towards her. Lucas just needed a reason to change.
“There would be blood, folks. There would be blood.”
Rachel Van Dyken seemingly does the impossible with making me root for these two as a couple, I mean come on, this is Lucas Thorn, manwhore extraordinaire. However, once Rachel Van Dyken explains their past and explores Lucas’s feelings all those many moons ago you begin to understand why he did the things he did. He was trapped and he didn’t know how to escape. So, while getting a huge dose of the feels and all those emotions that an “I’ve loved you forever” storyline brings Rachel Van Dyken cements these two in your heart as a couple you want to make it. With love/hate thrown into the mix and some decidedly dodgy situations Rachel Van Dyken will also have you in fits of laughter and it is this light-hearted side that really cemented this as a great read for me.
“The last time I tried I fell for someone else. A girl with bright green eyes and strawberry-blonde hair who smelled like grape gum and called me by my last name. She made me feel alive. I think she’s the only one capable of giving a cheater a reason to change his ways. That’s all I can give you, the truth.”

It isn't really cheating....
By upinthecosmos
This was a fun read. I was leery in the beginning, & in the middle, but the humor mixed in throughout kept me intrigued.
Lucas Thorn & Kayla Black were the quintessential high school lovebirds and now they are about to get married however, Lucas is questioning if she is really the one he wants to be with. He & Kayla have been together since the 8th grade & now, in his mid-20's, he's finding himself attracted to her kid sister, Avery. Being that he was pretty close to the family, he bonded with Avery but it had always been more of a big brother type relationship. Now that she is older, not quite 18, he's seeing her differently. The night before Lucas & Kayla are expected to walk down the isle, in a drunken haze, he makes a decision that costs him his ties to the Black family & loosens them with his own.
Lucas moves on in life but is now determined not to tie himself down to just one woman. There are 7 days a week & he is with a different woman 6 out of those 7, with Sundays being reserved for bonding time with his sister. It doesn't seem to be hard for him to find willing woman to participate in his little weekly romps. They all know what they are in for & his motto is "It isn't cheating if they know about it." You want to dislike the guy but he's not really cheating if they all know, it's more of an open relationship.
Avery is let go from a well paying job that she was pretty proud of & rather than going back home, she takes a paying internship. She soon finds out that her boss is none other than Lucas Thorn. Now the story of what all went down back in the past, between Lucas & the Black sisters, begins to unveil itself & Avery finds that the crush she had on him has not gone away.
Crazy antics ensue between Avery & Lucas. Their banter is fun & you just want them to come out & let each other know how they feel. Maybe spill how it is they've always felt. Nope, that doesn't happen right away of course but other crazy stuff does & this is where things get really unbelievable but bear with it. If you do then you come to find out that Lucas, he's not so bad & those Black sisters... they need a little help. More so the 2 older ones, Avery... she has the right idea of not wanting to move back home!
Want to know what happens? Well you'll just have to read it for yourself. You'll laugh, you'll probably get a little angry, irritated, & frustrated but it'll come together in the end & you may even shed a little tear.
