Very useful

This is one of the better books to explain both NTSC, PAL and digital measuring tools such as vector scopes. I found it very useful. It complements well training materials you find from Tektronix. Presentation is similar. There are a few tests that could use a more thorough explanation but most will tell you how to troubleshoot and setup video and audio equipment.

A story of love, loss and the courage to accept.

I bought this book in Mexico, and when I returned to Canada I started to read it. I could not put it down. I felt like I was on this journey with Margaret Tallis. There were times when I was so terrified of what was coming next, times when I got so angry, then there were times when I was laughing so hard the tears were running down my face (maybe because I lived in Mexico for twelve years and I could relate), and finally left was the over whelming sadness of such a huge and tragic loss that my heart was in pain. The inner strength and courage it took to share this true story is admirable. Well done, and thank you for sharing your story with us.

I liked this book because of the setting in San Miguel de Allende where I live. I also found Margaret's experience with witch craft to be interesting. She writes well, her descriptions of Mexico are good. This book is a good read.

Needs editing

Enjoyed the concept and would like to encourage the author to take the storyline farther. On the minus side is the obvious lack of editing. Narration is third person and then to first person and back again to third person, often in the same paragraph. Also a character changing genders in the middle of the story had me scratching my head. Looking forward to where she is headed next.

This reads like a decent story IDEA. It is too short however, overpriced on that basis alone and had too many grammatical and spelling errors. The story idea could have been developed into so much more that I was kind of disappointed. Keep at it, but don't give up your day job just yet. If this seems harsh, welcome to the world of professional writing padawan. At least you were brave and motivated enough to try..

Great story teller

This is a hard review to write. I really liked the authors writing and have read both this and the next book and am waiting for the next installment eagerly.

However I was really generous in calling it a book. Thirty one pages isn't a book. If I didn't have kindle unlimited I wouldn't have read it in the first place, even having read it and liking it I would never pay even 99 cents for a 31 page novelette much less the 2.99 price listed. This is more like a very very short serialized story.

To the author...
I think you have what it takes to tell a great story. Your story is very reminiscent of the Galaxy Unknown series by Thomas DePrima crossed with the Wandering Engineer series by Chris Hechtl both of whom are very successful to my mind indie authors in this genre. The difference is that they are writing 300 to 700 page books. Your first episode could easily have been fleshed out to books size of 200+ pages. Just treat the existing book as an outline. You have all these great stories that you didn't really tell other than to say it happened all through the main plot line. The same with the second book.

I have read the other reviews left and know that your getting others saying that it's good but needs to be fleshed out. Listen to us. We really want to read this story the way it could be. :)

James Cook is a Java software developer from London, England. He is currently touring Australia. He has developed software ranging from banking and mobile applications to games. He has worked for large gaming companies, such as Electronic Arts, Playfish, and Plumbee. During the day, he can be found working on rapid application prototyping for new social casino experiences. A great, up-to-date LibGDX guide

LibGDX has quickly become the darling of the cross-platform game development world for those ideas that need a bit more power than HTML5 and mobile wrappers can provide. The issue with most books I have found is not actually in the books, but in LibGDX itself. It has been moving and evolving so fast that many of the books on the market today are already outdated. They either use the old project setup method, which is much more difficult and not recommended or the text is so out of date the instructions are worthless.

But with word in the LibGDX community that the codebase is stabilizing, this new book fits the bill very well. Going through the initial setup, the pictures and instructions matched-up perfectly, and hopefully will for a long time now that the work flow is more mature. I had no problem setting up my environment at all following this book, and I was also happy to see the author using Jetbrains IDEs (although you can still use Eclipse, and the author describes how).

One of the main things I enjoyed about this book is the multi-game style. Most game dev books are in one of two camps: build one larger game through the whole book, or several smaller games. I tend to prefer the latter, since you get to see more varied solutions to a wide variety of problems. It also allows the author to mold each game around the topic being discussed. The only downside is that you have a bit of boilerplate setup for each game before you can tackle the star topic, but the author does re-use code from earlier chapters, and the code is of course available for download if you don't want to keep going through the setup each time.

An important distinction that potential readers would probably want to know up-front is that most of the book assumes deployment to desktop platforms. There is a nice treatment near the end that discusses porting to mobile devices, so you aren't left out in the cold, but it will take a bit of self-guided research to completely convert all the games in the book to mobile format (mostly centering around touch input and mobile design itself). Since most developers are likely coming to LibGDX to learn mobile development, that is kind of surprising, but I did not feel the need to remove a star since this book will still get you 95% of the way there. Learning the core of LibGDX is the largest hurdle, and this book fits that bill nicely.

In conclusion, I highly recommend this book for learning the basics of LibGDX. It is a fairly short, easy read that still tackles a ton of topics. You may still need a bit of outside research if your aim is mobile game development, but you will have the foundation to do that. Plus, every other book on LibGDX is woefully outdated save for Packt's other book on the topic, "Learning LibGDX Game Development, 2nd Edition". I would still rather choose this book, though, because it is a faster, easier read that will get you at your keyboard working on your own games faster. However, the true scholars among us may want to read this book cover-to-cover first and then grab Learning LibGDX 2nd Ed and pick through some of the chapters on more advanced topics and cross-platform mobile development. You would really be prepared for anything following that path!

It has clear concise examples of games and takes you through step by step so you can see how they come together.

I wish I had had this book two years ago it would have saved me a lot of time.

Wait I'm lost!

Too many mistakes inside this book. It teaches good concepts, however sometimes it skips important things. This book is supposed to be for beginner but then it leaves us lost for a couple of minutes. I had to check the source code more than 4 times so far because the boom adds code without even letting you know of it. And when you follow the instructions it won't run because you don't have the whole code. The code can only be found in the source code folder or the next chapters. I don't know if I got the first version without anything fixed inside the book because I got it from Amazon, but I checked and double checked and there are not any pages missing.

This book is an enjoyable read and a wonderful resource for any investor! The author compiled a variety of quotes from many different investors, all of whom are accomplished and highly respected in their particular niches, whether it be value investing, short selling, distressed debt, or activist investing. I also very much enjoyed reading the biographical descriptions and fun facts about each investor. Knowing about the background, where the person came from, and what obstacles they had to overcome to achieve success makes the quotes even more inspiring and meaningful. This book is a great resource for individual investors, money managers, research analysts, and anyone else involved in investing.

I have been reading Mariusz's reports on individual companies for several years as a subscription member to his service. I have also watched his interviews, and dvd's, on investing. I have subscribed to the best professional investment services for years (for some I have paid as much as 10k a year) and Mariusz is as good an observor as any of them. Several times I have found his reports to be the absolute best on any company. This is a great book of quotes on investing, with a heavy emphasis on value investing. It is organized by investor in alphabetical order with a short description followed by quotes. Some of the quotes are a little long, but there are several that I never heard before. Highly recommend.

Great Book to be Inspired!

Great advice for investors. Nice mix of different investors some who I never heard of before. I can see myself reading it again and again. This book of quotes provides inspiration to improve ones investing craft. Very enjoyable read! With today's investing environment any source of inspiration can go a long way.
